Tanah Lot has been known as an icon of Bali tourism.
We offer you to combine our half day cooking class and the Tanah Lot temple visit for your convinience,
as the holy temple is only a few driving minutes from MEXX THE COOKING SCHOOL away.
You could tick off a cooking class and the Tanah Lot temple from your Bali bucket list in one day.
Tanah Lot means “Land (in the) Sea” in the Balinese language.
The impressive Hindu temple is best reached at low tide; visitors can walk across the beach to the temple.
At high tide, Tanah Lot is only accessible by boat.
At no time visitors will be able to enter the temple, as the holy temple access is only for Balinese Hindu ceremonies.
At the base of the rocky temple island, venomous sea snakes are believed to guard the temple from evil spirits and intruders.
The temple is the most famous amongst seven sea temples around the Balinese coast.
Another interesting detail is that there is a cave with a magical spring underneath Tanah Lot. Oddly enough the water in the spring is fresh, where as the temple is surrounded by salt ocean water.
According to the local myth, you can make a wish by drinking and rubbing the water in your face.
Tanah Lot is also popular as a place for shopping, just perfect to get some local souveniers.
